Modern Arts

Porters Neck, Wilmington, NC

The clients wanted a contemporary style with an understated industrial feel. The space needed to have open living areas that would be appropriate for a family and pets. Finishes and materials were appropriately selected to meet the demands of a busy family and pet friendly home. The design concept was to use a carefully selected mix of industrial, modern and vintage inspired pieces to create a “collected” look that is harmonious and artistically driven, without being time period specific. The emphasis is on the mixed use of materials and textures, rather than color, reinforcing the contemporary theme of the home. Warm colors and saturated jewel tones play a supporting role as accents in pillows, accessories, artwork, and rugs.

Customization allowed the creativity to show through in this artsy home. The custom island top, constructed of poured concrete with cut antique glass bottles and individually selected glass fragments, was designed to create an illusion that the pattern “flowed” down the waterfall side panel. Another favorite customization of ours are the custom locally forged island legs done by Jeff Bridgers of Forge & Foundry.
