Cozy, nature-inspired, getaway

Masonboro Cottage

Wilmington, NC

The clients wanted to finish their attic to create a cozy getaway right within their home. We wanted to incorpate the clients' passion for native flora and fauna into the design of the space. We incorporated nature-inspired colors and patterns throughout, including Newton Paisley fabrics which accurately (and beautifully) represent native NC endangered species in an effort to bring awareness to their conservation.

We wanted the clients to be comfortable, but feel transported while in their new attic space. As a retired bishop of the Episcopal Church and wife, the world-travelling clients have collected many delightful antiques and wanted to a way to display them. The antiques required a display that was sophisticated enough, yet didn't steal the show. This understated elegance is weaved throughout the design of the renovated attic escape. Enveloping patterns add interest and personality to a soft, simple backdrop of Craftsman design, neutral colors, and natural materials. It's tailored English garden meets easy-going coastal North Carolina.
