The design concept was “coastal clarity,” with inviting colors and clean hues. We wanted to maintain the elegant feel of the Wilmington practice, but incorporate more of a contemporary scheme instead of the more traditional feel of the Wilmington location. Function and durability of fabrics and furnishings were of paramount importance, especially in the areas where patients are treated for skin cancer.
Decorative lighting was key in elevating this space beyond a typical medical office. We used champagne accents in the sconces, the drum pendants in the main area, and in the pendants over the check-in stations. The multiple seating fabrics added character and color combinations and created warmth and interest in the space. The artwork was a driving element in the colors chosen for the spaces and their “clarity in color” was chosen specifically to reflect the coastal concept in an uplifting way. Together with the client, we didn’t want any art that was dreary; we intentionally used clean, and sometimes saturated, colors.
