Comfortable, Inviting, Collected

Farmhouse Goes West

Wilmington, NC

The empty nesters decided to settle down on the East Coast after years of relocating across the country and even abroad. The clients called on the Big Sky Shop + Collaborative Studio to help pull together their newly built home. The home was designed with a purpose – to entertain their friends and family members frequently and comfortably. We helped to source furnishings that they weren’t able to find on their own, staying in budget but meeting their requirements for quality and craftsmanship.

The design process was truly collaborative for these clients. Together we selected upholstery, furnishings, window treatments, rugs, lighting, and accessories that spoke to the clients’ tastes, meshed with the design scheme, and met the functional needs of the home. The couple had collected beautiful artwork from their many travels, as well as original pieces by their daughter. These, of course, deserved to be highlighted. We emphasized these pieces by incorporating their dominant colors into the fabrics of each room. The custom bench cushion was our favorite example. It pulled in the bold cobalt and honey tones displayed in the art and pottery on the floating kitchen shelves. We then referenced the honey in the decorative tape on the roman shades above. Throughout the home, we helped them emphasize the artifacts, artwork, and travel souvenirs that meant the most to them. From the client: "We love the results from the Big Sky Design! Rileigh and Bethany were easy to work with and great listeners. They did an awesome job of capturing our personalities and incorporating our style into the interior design of our home. These ladies are warm, creative and fun, yet professional in every aspect of their work!" Most proudly, we captured the essence of them.
