Functional, Transitional, Optimal Living

Cambridge Village

Wilmington, NC

The client's wishes for function and style encompassed ensuring that all furniture was suitable for an assisted living facility, with specifications such as higher and firmer seat cushions, locking caster mechanisms, and bleach-cleanable materials. The intention was to incorporate existing furniture where possible, re-upholstering as necessary, while also introducing some new pieces and accessories to elevate the environment. The overall design concept aimed to refresh the space with a transitional feel, although specifics were somewhat elusive.

An element that significantly enhanced both the style and function of the space was the careful reworking of carpet and paint colors on each floor, serving as a means of wayfinding for residents. For instance, the incorporation of green elements on the second floor through carpet, paint, and eventual additions like drapery and artwork facilitated navigation. A standout feature of the completed project was the custom carpeting spread throughout the facility, which modernized the space while harmonizing with its traditional architectural elements. This addition not only brought vibrancy and personality to the environment but also served as a focal point to complement various accessories. The uniqueness of the project lies in the transformative effect of the custom carpeting, offering both functional benefits and an aesthetic focal point that revitalizes the entire space.
