The playroom’s base cabinets were already in place but we worked with the talented team at Konrady & Son to install upper shelving and create a full builtin. Being able to utilize the vertical wall space for books, bins and toys meant that the family now had a storage system and space for organization. It also allowed for fewer pieces of furniture in the room, which was key given that this space is multipurpose. The rattan swing is a really unique feature. This room faces the Intracoastal Waterway and we positioned the swing so that whoever sat in it would enjoy the full waterfront view. The kids love propping up in it with a book! ​​Pattern mixing can yield such a fun result but it must be planned for strategically! Each pattern’s scale should be considered during the selection process and a connecting color or two also aids in the visual storytelling. The drapery’s ikat print is large and already paired well with the medium scale geometric print of the carpet. Each had a gray tone in it too. We wanted to pump up the color though so we opted for a small scale print in multicolored blues and greens for the ceiling. If you look closely, the wallpaper has the chartreuse from the ikat draperies and elephant print pillows but it also pulls the gray tone from the drapery fabric and carpet. Pink was definitely our wild card color but we were able to integrate it thanks to the vibrant artwork and accessories. Planning is definitely key but you also have to leave just a little room for the magic performed at the end! That’s what makes trusting your designer so important!
