Warm, Grounded, Peaceful

Collected Comfort

Wilmington, NC

For this primary suite, the goal was to create a space that felt calm, cozy, and deeply personal—a place to unwind at the end of the day. The homeowners were drawn to a moodier palette, but wanted to keep the space feeling warm and inviting rather than overly dark. We began by reworking the existing architectural elements, using paint and finish selections to shift the overall tone of the room. Warmer, deeper tones were introduced throughout the space, bringing a sense of contrast and grounding while still allowing the room to feel soft and livable. What once felt standard now reads as more intentional and refined.

From there, the design developed through layers of texture and tonal variation. Linen drapery brings an airy softness, while curved silhouettes in the furnishings help balance the home’s existing millwork, easing the sharper lines of the board and batten wall and ceiling details. A mix of modern accents and more traditional forms creates a sense of quiet contrast, giving the space a collected, lived-in feel. Function played an equally important role in the transformation. We partnered with Unique Custom Closets to redesign the primary closet, creating a system that supports both homeowners while maintaining a cohesive and elevated aesthetic. The result is a space that feels just as considered as the bedroom itself, with storage that is both practical and refined. Throughout the suite, materials were selected to reinforce a sense of warmth and depth. Soft upholstery, oxidized metals, and lacquered linen finishes introduce subtle variation, while a hand-knotted wool rug anchors the room with rich tones of brown and taupe, along with hints of honey and pale green. These layered elements add dimension without disrupting the overall sense of calm. The finished space feels warm and grounded. A true retreat, designed for everyday comfort.

There’s a warmth to it that you notice right away.
